Windscreen camera calibration after every replacement, so your safety systems work the way they should.
Most cars built in the last few years have a camera mounted behind the windscreen. It runs features like lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and traffic sign recognition. When the windscreen is replaced, that camera has to be calibrated again so it sees the road correctly.
D&C Auto Glass replaces windscreens across Perth and then arranges your ADAS camera calibration with a specialist calibration partner, so you only deal with one business. Dave has more than 36 years in the trade and is an MRB-licensed repairer (MRB 3705).

What is ADAS?
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These are the safety features that watch the road and help you drive, using a camera that usually sits behind the windscreen near the rear-view mirror.
Features that rely on the windscreen camera include:
- Lane departure warning and lane keeping assist
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Forward collision warning
- Adaptive cruise control
- Traffic sign recognition
- Automatic high beam
- Rain-sensing wipers and some head-up displays
Popular Perth vehicles with windscreen cameras include the Toyota HiLux, RAV4 and Corolla, Ford Ranger and Everest, Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 3, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Subaru Outback and Forester (EyeSight), and most European models. If your windscreen has a black panel or housing behind the mirror, your car almost certainly has ADAS.

Why your camera needs calibrating after a windscreen replacement
A new windscreen never sits in exactly the same spot as the old one. Even a difference of a millimetre or a fraction of a degree changes where the camera is aiming. At highway speed, that small error can mean the system misreads lane markings or judges the distance to the car in front wrongly.
Without calibration, you might notice:
- A warning light or “system unavailable” message on the dash
- Lane assist steering you slightly off-centre, or not working at all
- Emergency braking reacting late, early, or to things that aren’t there
- Adaptive cruise keeping an odd gap to the car ahead
Sometimes there’s no warning at all, and the system simply works less accurately. That’s why most vehicle manufacturers require calibration after any windscreen replacement on an ADAS-equipped car.
Calibration may also be needed after a wheel alignment, suspension work, or a minor front-end bump. A chip in the camera’s field of view usually can’t be repaired, so the windscreen has to be replaced rather than repaired.
Static vs dynamic calibration
There are two ways to calibrate an ADAS camera. Your car’s manufacturer decides which one it needs, and some vehicles need both.
| Static calibration | Dynamic calibration | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | The car is parked on level ground and the camera reads target boards set at exact distances | A scan tool is connected and the car is driven on clearly marked roads until the camera re-learns |
| Where it’s done | A workshop or a suitable level space | On the road, usually a nearby highway or main road |
| Typical time | About 30 to 60 minutes | About 30 to 45 minutes of driving |
| Common in | Many Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, Hyundai, Kia and European models | Many Ford and some Holden/GM models |
We check the manufacturer’s requirements for your exact vehicle before the job. We then book your car in with our specialist calibration partner, who uses the method your manufacturer specifies.
How it works with D&C Auto Glass
- Get a quote. Call 0405 388 595 or send us your details with your make, model, year and (ideally) rego. We’ll check whether your car has a windscreen camera and which calibration it needs.
- We source the right glass. ADAS windscreens have camera brackets and optical clarity in the camera zone that must match your vehicle. We use the same glass suppliers as the big companies.
- Windscreen replacement. Dave replaces the windscreen at your home or workplace anywhere in the Perth metro area, using adhesives suited to your vehicle.
- Calibration. We book your car in with our specialist calibration partner, who calibrates the camera following the manufacturer’s procedure. We organise it for you, so there’s nothing extra to chase.
- Checked and documented. The system is checked for faults and you receive the calibration report for your records and your insurer.
You deal directly with the person doing the work, not a call centre.

ADAS calibration FAQs
Does my car need ADAS calibration after a windscreen replacement?
If your car has a camera mounted behind the windscreen, almost certainly yes. Most manufacturers require calibration whenever the windscreen is replaced. Tell us your make, model and year and we’ll confirm.
How long does ADAS calibration take?
Usually 30 to 60 minutes on top of the windscreen replacement, depending on whether your car needs static, dynamic or both types of calibration.
Can I drive my car before it’s calibrated?
You can drive it, but your safety systems may not work correctly. Avoid relying on lane assist, adaptive cruise or emergency braking until calibration is done.
Is ADAS calibration covered by insurance?
Often, yes, as part of a windscreen claim, but policies differ. Check with your insurer, or ask us and we’ll help. You can choose your own repairer.
Can a chip near the camera be repaired?
Usually not. Resin in the camera’s field of view can distort what it sees, so a chip in that area normally means a windscreen replacement. Chips elsewhere can often be repaired.
